Villa Jasmine, a stone-built villa by the sea in Platanidia at dusk

Platanidia · South Pelion · Greece

Villa Jasmine

Fifty metres from the sea, at the foot of Mount Pelion.

The retreat

Where the mountains meet the sea

Villa Jasmine is in Platanidia, a small village on the Pagasetic Gulf, right where Mount Pelion meets the water. In Greek mythology, this mountain was home to the Centaurs. The sea is calm and clear, just fifty metres from the door — close enough to hear the small waves on the pebbles from the garden in the morning.

In the evening, the garden smells of jasmine and dinner from the barbecue. After sunset, a cool breeze usually comes down from the mountain, so summer nights stay comfortable rather than hot and sticky.

The sea

A Blue Flag beach, fifty metres from the door

Platanidia's beach has smooth pebbles and calm, clear water. It's protected by the gulf, so the sea is usually flat enough to swim straight out from the shore.

Your umbrella, sun loungers and beach chairs stay set up on the pebbles the whole time you're here, and towels are ready by the door. Nothing to rent, nothing to carry down.

The patio & garden

A private patio, and a garden that's all yours

The covered patio has a long dining table, shade in the afternoon and lanterns at night. There's a gas barbecue with everything you need, and the kitchen behind it is set up like a real home — double oven, dishwasher, a coffee machine, wine glasses, all of it.

The garden is fully fenced, so kids can play safely, and there's free private parking right at the villa.

The evenings

Cool air comes down the mountain after sunset

As the sun goes down behind Pelion, cool air moves down the mountain and into the garden. It's a local weather pattern, and it keeps summer nights pleasant instead of sticky — it's also when the jasmine on the wall smells strongest.

In the colder months, the wood-burning fireplace takes over from the patio. The villa is open all year round, and spring and autumn are the quietest times by the gulf.
